I did not come to AI images out of curiosity. I came to it out of rejection. Rejection of a culture that mocks beauty, despises mastery, and rewards provocation over meaning. A regime that tells us a banana taped to a wall is “important,” while centuries of discipline, proportion, beauty and vision are dismissed as reactionary or elitist. Yes, the banana was a joke. But jokes reveal truths and the truth is this: modern culture no longer knows what Art is, only how to perform reverence toward whatever critics tell us to applaud. In using AI to prompt classical styles, I learned more about art than I ever did inside 4 years of classrooms guarded by Art theory (I always got low grades on cubism and modern Art because I do not like them). But using AI prompting, I searched Art and encountered Art schools and trends sidelined not because they lacked value but because they refused to conform to the myth of inevitable progress, the lie that history must always move forward by destroying what came before, deeming it absolute. Now, we don't have progress. We have cultural amnesia.
AI is dangerous to the "Art world" because it breaks the monopoly. It removes curators, critics, grant committees and academic critics from their role as aesthetic lawmakers. For the first time in decades, individuals can explore, compare, revive, and judge styles on their own terms and that terrifies people. The solution? Moralize it. Cry copyright. Scream Thefth. Redefine “Artist” so narrowly that only those baptized by "holding a pen" qualify. Confuse legality with legitimacy and ethics with obedience. I am not interested in living artists (with rare exceptions) because most contemporary Art is not made to be beautiful, true nor lasting. It is made to shock safely, to rot on white walls while critics explain why you are stupid for feeling nothing. I reject that world entirely. I choose Neoclassicism over Nihilism. Academicism over Irony. Impressionism over Cubism. The Berliners over Svabhava. I choose form, craft, proportion, harmony, and vision. I choose to reference artists that demanded skill and rewarded the eye and mind. And do not take this as nostalgia but as resistance.
I do agree that training an AI model should compensate the artist is training on. It is copyright and it should hold sway over everything else. Furthermore, I want all the artist who draw IP's of Disney, DC or Marvel to pay those companies, every time they get a commission. Scour every Twitter, Patreon, Facebook, and other social mediums for those accounts and make them pay "The Man" the 10% out of commissions and media revenues for post involving those IP's. You have a bunch of increasingly unlicensed copies of artwork (Comedian) in your video. Did you obtain the original artists' approval to use them in your video that is monetized? Please pay the artist its due.
I do agree that AI slop is everywhere. I made AI slop myself at the beginning. Now, I am rejecting it. I am asserting that without human judgment and taste, AI produces nothing of value. I realized the machine does not create but must be directed. And that was precisely the moment of change for me. Without human touch, AI images are unbearable, hollow, dead and aesthetic landfills. The truth is that AI, left alone, produces garbage. It imitates surfaces, not intent. It can’t feel weight, restraint, rhythm nor silence. It doesn’t know when to stop nor it knows what matters. That is why I intervened. I stopped letting the machine lead. Every image I prompt is directed, corrected, carved, and reworked by me. Pixel by pixel. From the prompt to the final post-processing, I dictate the mood, the tension, the light, the breath of the image. The machine executes. I decide. And still don't call myself an "Artist". Not because I lack agency, but because the word has been emptied. “Artist” today means positioning not vision, statements not substance.
This is not about replacing artists. It is about exposing how little of what is celebrated as Art today involved human mastery to begin with and I will not pretend I see the emperors' new clothes.
