When I studied Graphic design in the pre desktop dark ages our tutors were not that bothered about people with eg 3 As at A level. ( back then most only sat 2 or 3 As. Only the top slice of the A stream sat 4 or rarely 5).
But they liked students with 8 or 9 O levels and 3 or 4 A levels and were happy to accept a range of marks. It was the scope that they were interested in.
The sort of mind that is good at channelling one or two subjects was no use to advertisers etc. But I suspect is more common in AI coders.
Nb an awful lot of top, innovative thinkers in both arts and sciences have a broad knowledge and skillset.
