I think the explanation to the public is that they should not use AI to recreate an artist's style. This is because it takes years of training, exposure, and experience to reach each individual style. Copying it will not develop your own individuality and uniqueness. Moreover, the data learned by AI will be corrupted and not pure. In the short run, YES it works but in the long run, it will turn AI in the opposite direction. Personally, I love AI and have been using MidJourney to create artwork for fun (non-commercial), quick idea mockups, etc... However, what we can do to be a bit responsible is to use AI to create different elements of our vision of the artwork. Then use all those elements you ask AI to create and DI it, so it does not feel like a rip-off and that AI at least knows how to improve. Also, it respects the artist themselves, and they might treat it as a remixed (2000's term when an artist and designer remixed each other work for fun) or a homage to them. In the end, when we use AI, we often forget we are also training AI Itself. If we are corrupted and lazy, we will produce a machine that will do the same. Let's spend it bit of time to put effort and creating a better AI for everyone.
