As someone with an understanding of computer science, I can tell you that computers are stupid. Like, really stupid. They don't understand how to do anything other than what people tell them to. They can play tricks on us with extremely complex algorithms, but at the end of the day, it is impossible for a computer to think. Even things like ChatGPT which seem like real people are just billions of comparisons between different pieces of data being accessed by a program that's really good at tricking you into thinking it's sentient. The most worrying thing about the rise of AI is honestly the fact that people don't understand this. People are going to continue treating AI models as if they're real people, and it's going to cause a lot of problems we probably can't even comprehend just yet.
