I now think AI is what will do us in as a species.
We're just petrol monkeys that have just climbed down from the trees, evolutionarily speaking. But we have in us all those reflexes and tendencies . We're tribal, we tend to react aggressively when there is no food, we tend to react aggressively if we feel threatened (whether the threat is real or imaginary).
Now give those petrol monkeys nukes and superintelligent AI and watch the trainwreck unfold.
And I really, really wanted us to become interstellar monkeys...
