NanoWrimo is where I properly started as a writer; I was doing teeny tiny projects and studying beforehand, but nano was the thing that made me take the leap to hold myself accountable for my future as a writer. I got about 25,000 words written in November and continued on for about a year. I'm at about 115,000 words now and only the last couple of chapters, I'm on track to finish my first draft before the start of November.
If I were using generative ai, I could have done the same amount of words in a weekend. It would be complete sludge of course, but since NanoWrimo doesn't seem to care about writing quality or writing as a craft, they won't have a problem with sludge, right?
It's downright silly to be okay with writers being replaced with glorified autopredict.
