We’re at one of those cultural crossroads that occur every so often throughout history.
And I think it’s important to propose a new interpretation of what art and work actually are.
Because while AI is presented as an effort to automate and control resources,
what’s really at stake here is the control of those resources.
AI is just the beginning.
Once military robots can be bought and owned,
the same people who already control political power and the means of production
will arm themselves to protect what they claim as theirs.
That’s the direction we’re headed: a rather dark, dystopian future.
The point is to rethink, as individuals, what art is, and what it needs to become.
We already know AI has been used to allow people to steal styles,
and even replace the artists who created them.
But art isn’t just about techniques in service of an idea.
Art is about the ability to create empathy in those who experience it.
That’s how art is consumed, how it becomes art—
and that’s exactly what they’ve tried to hijack and shut down.
We need to take technique out of the equation.
Out of this medium—out of the hands of corporations.
And start building culture outside of that.
Stop educating ourselves to work for a company.
Stop educating ourselves to work for a studio,
a video game company, a media brand, etc.
We should use art for what it’s truly meant for:
to store time, to make social critique, and to shape culture.
That’s something they’ll never be able to fully take.
Because we’re at a point where information is so widespread,
even the dumbest person knows the Earth is round.
Sure, there are people monetizing opposing ideas—
but that’s all they are: noise.
And in my view, these “flat-earthers” of society
are the business elites trying to push for a dystopia
where they control every resource
and gain access to a form of untouchable power.
That’s why we must use any technique, any medium to generate culture—
outside of the system—
and stop contributing to the consolidation of everything
in the hands of these useless, moneyed mafiosos.
