These people who make such comments don't understand the basics of economics. There is no reason for a company to reduce head count unless its revenue reduces. And in cases when some company's revenue dips and has to reduce head count, invariably it leads to increase in head count in some other company. More software engineers being laid off means more AI engineer/Robotics engineer/Firmware engineer getting hired. Headcount in OpenAI grew from 50 to 3000 in last 5 years , similar has happened in anthropic, Nvidia and other futuristic businesses. Most people don't understand number of jobs available is a function of amount of free flowing capital in the world. So unless there is recession(like 2008) it can't really decrease. When robots does job of human it happens like this. Now since a work of 10 people can be done by 2, so it saves 80% cost right? where does this 80% cash go ? When profits increase either of 4 things happen: 1) They use that profit to invest into new sectors thereby creating more jobs in that new sector. 2) Pass some part of the profits back to the consumers by lowering the price, Lowering prices of items creates more demand thereby increases the sales 3) Hold lost of cash in book leading to massive boom in banking jobs 4) Let's say with that increased profit founders don't do either of the above but only buys more and more of luxury items for themselves like Ferraris Yachts, Private Jets etc but that leads to massive boom in those industries and creating more jobs there in those luxury brands.
