I'm usually quite abrasive when arguing with people online, but I think you are a kind and considerate person who cares for others. And I like your content. So, I'll try to be polite. The simplest problem I have is with how you phrase some things. At 13:19 you say "..because to them it just seems like another type of automation. Like replacing a factory worker with a machine, but this is it goes a lot deeper than that. You know, fundamentally art is communication, and so it's a more akin to try to replace, like, your family member with a robot" Your framing of this analogy is a false dichotomy. You don't have to choose between a family member and a robot. You can have both. Which is really cool. You know, your family member has been working a lot of overtime lately. They haven't had a lot of time to hang out. AND when they are here: me, my family, and our neat robot buddy can all hang out together. I want to say that I don't believe that most people bothered by ai art, actually have a problem with ai art inherently. Hypothetically, if an artist used an ai trained solely on their own art, and just used it to speed up production. I doubt that would get any negative response. Except from boomers and elitists "you used technology to make this? that's not real art" but whatever. We've been dealing with those types since digital art became a thing. So, what is the problem a lot of artists have with ai art as it exists today? For a lot of artists, it simply puts them out of a job. For something simple like a character model I want for roleplay, why would I pay and take the time for an artist to create my character, when I can get online and use a prompt for a few minutes and find something that will get me something 95% as good as an artist would get me? I want to start my RP session as soon as possible. God forbid they get it wrong now I have to wait even longer for them to finish. It just doesn't make sense in this use case to go with an artist. As to people's anger over this? I empathize. I understand this takes money out of your pocket, but it is what it is. Get better or do something else for money. I also don't think the idea of ai art being stolen works for a lot of its use. Like in my example, a lot of its use is for people to use personally. Even if I straight copy paste someone's art to use as my profile picture, I don't think people would consider that stealing. Further more, the idea of ai art being stolen is tenuous at best. As long as the ai isn't just replicating the image 1 to 1, then the only thing it can "steal" is the style. And I don't buy that an art style can be stolen. What bothers me are the scummy people who use ai art and try to play it off as their own work. Don't lie about your work. Simple. The environment. Yea, this is not gonna convince people not to use ai. I would say using an ai to generate an image probably causes less damage in the world than paying an artist to use the materials mined and assembled god knows where. Using ai art to harass people. This is a problem of harassment, it has nothing to do with the ai. Same is true of the political propaganda. I hear complaints about it feels hollow. I would say that mostly comes from the knowledge that it wasn't made by a human. Besides, I've seen hollow art come from bad artists as well. You just see it more with ai because it's so easy to produce. So at the end of all this, that leaves me with a question. Why are artists mad at ai art? Simple, they worked for years to achieve an ability to create beautiful work, and then a shithead like me, whose never studied art comes along, goes to a website and with a few prompts, I have something 95% as good as what you can do. That just feels bad, I get it. Oh, one thing I've seen others say that I agree with is that it's annoying how much of it there is. I do like what you're doing in this video though. some classic trolling. Ultimately fruitless, the ai people will simply create an ai to detect images that use the method you outlined and then will filter those from the training data. Also, I wouldn't worry about helping train them by improving bad ai art. Your effect is minimal and the ai will get there eventually. You're only delaying the inevitable. That's another thing I don't understand, what's the point of all this anger? You can't stop it.
