This is a fantastic video, and that's coming from someone who is Pro-AI Art. I like that this video addressed the issues without getting too hysterical about it, which many other videos frequently do. As for WHY I'm Pro-AI Art? Because it has opened a lot of creative doors for me and is allowing me to tell stories I previously could not. I've been trying to draw for decades now but it has gone very poorly. With the AI I've been able to create and combine multiple assets together into comics and have been able to do things like create emotes for my friend's Twitch channel which I normally could not do among many other things. I am indeed looking into finally making a videogame thanks to AI art. I know someone will say I should hire and artist, and I do. I commission artists frequently and appreciate their work and no amount of AI Art will ever stop me because I love the specific way these artists draw and think and the human elements they bring to the table. However, sometimes commissioning artists doesn't work out, as has been the case with all previously attempted game projects. Every single attempt to get the art assets necessary to begin creating the games I want to make has ended in disaster. I will say, however, that DeviantArt should absolutely host AI art because...well...if you've seen what else they host you'd understand. Namely things like comics made with a Japanese mannequin program that all look the same or stories written next to random photos of instagram models to say nothing of the madness that is "Pooh's Adventures of...". No, AI Art kinda belongs on DeviantArt. Other websites? Perhaps not so much. BUT! I DO agree it should be separated! Thinking about it, AI image generation should not even be considered the same thing as drawing or painting. It should be viewed as an entirely different art form. I know some will say it shouldn't be considered an art form at all, but once AI Art stops being about "making pretty pictures" and instead becomes about "making pictures do a specific thing", it's a whole other ball game. When working on my AI comics I will sometimes spend more than an hour smacking NovelAI around trying to figure out how to get it to give me the right pose, expression, and consistency with previous images to form the next panel of my comic. I think that once AI Art evolves as an art form, it will become more about THAT. About getting the AI to generate something specific rather than just something pretty. But yeah! Just count AI Art as a totally separate thing! Like photography and poetry and writing and stuff. The tools for this filter already exist on pretty much all art sites so just shuffle it in there! I wanna also say that I'm actually really cool with the idea that AI Art can't be copyrighted. That doesn't prevent ME, the guy who can't draw but wants to create, from using it for my creative endeavors, but it DOES discourage big companies from wide spread adoption of AI Art. In a lot of ways it feels like turn about is fair play. To train the AI we swiped a bunch of art from the internet, so the art it generates should be just as swipeable! But I WILL say that I DO fear people taking their crusade against AI Art too far. Many would agree that the copyright system is broken and needs an overhaul but in their fervor to stop AI Art, I've seen artists begin PRAISING Disney and the Music Industry for their draconic control of copyright and begin cheering that on. I fear this could have some pretty awful consequences. Before I go there's one last thing I want to bring up: Fanart. Fanart exists in an awkward space legally. Like...technically it's illegal to make money off of fanart, including doing commissions, but most companies turn a blind eye to it. But! Can you copyright a piece of fanart? I don't think you can. So if an AI was trained entirely off fanart but used to make original images...what's the legality on THAT one? Yeah a tricky situation indeed. I hope that we can find equilibrium between those who want to use AI Art, and traditional artists. Some kind of compromise would be nice. Kinda considering doing a video of my own about how and why I use AI art and the techniques I use to sort of humanize the AI user...I hesitate to say "artist" as I know that annoys people. I've heard some folks throw around the term "prompter"? I could go with that. Anyway, keep up the good and informative work Solar Sands!
