Look... the answer is obvious. Cooperation. Make the $10 device ($10 because the companies are subsidising it) that transmits a "Hey!, I'm here so don't hit me" signal. Make the transmitter small, the signal invisible, and the cool bikers will still use it. Pedestrians will use it. People will put it on their pets. On and on.
Yeah, yeah... "they'll use it to track me!" They already use your cellphone so get over it. Sooner or later somebody will offer "the box" and the sensitive people will then agonize over the poor raccoons that don't have them.
I mean, we're already putting trackers in everything right down to our keys. We're legally required to put lights on our vehicles so we can be seen. Many go all the way with hivis gear. Why not add some little thing that works really well for AI so it doesn't accidentally kill us?
Meanwhile, the engineers are going over this data, they will figure out some slight modification to solve this particular problem, and every car will get that update immediately,. Driver education is quick with AI. But, there will be another problem, and another, and another... until we start cooperating.
