We have been trying to head for automation for quite some time where the main problem was automation being too expensive. As the cost of labor and liability has gone up, automation is at a point of making financial sense. Because AI and automation are not perfect, it is going to be like Walmart's self check out replacing 12 cashiers with one to monitor and help customers. Someone will have to keep an eye on the AI and the automation and at least for a while, someone will need to be around to repair it.
