It’s not just the workers that are in trouble with AI, companies also await bad times. Imagine AI gets so good that for a tiny cost, a company can replace 10,000 white collar workers with AI. Then that means those ex-workers can also pay the same tiny price and have 10,000 white collar workers equivalent AI work for them too. Thus the competition against the companies that have replaced them with AI will increase and they too will be in trouble.
Before anyone says the companies have all the money and the workers do not, governments are going to be forced to pay UBI which will be plenty for ChatGPT 800 subscription.
Also AI isn’t held by a few companies, there are open source AI that are not that far behind the main ones. So it is and will always be available to everyone.
So we are only witnessing the economic system changing. We shouldn’t resist it, nor come up with policies that resist, the faster it happens the better.
