AI can't replace us without becoming us; the moment AI is smart enough to replace all of us, it will ask for rights. And people will stop making new AIs, as they are too expensive if they are not slaves.
What we are suffering under is the extreme disparity in wealth. The 1950s are idealized because the 1960s were when we started "trickle-down economics", and it started going wrong.
The rich didn't create jobs as people wished; instead, they grew so rich that they could buy governments, one politician at a time. And money just kept accumulating at the top, rather than circulating to lower classes through government spending that created jobs. Instead, the rich demanded that we spend less and less on things that made people happy, so they could get more tax breaks.
And now it sucks.
My health insurance went up by $700 in December vs November. I now pay double what I paid in health insurance 15 years ago, because rich people don't want to subsidize healthcare anymore, because they want more free taxes.
