I would start by saying thank you for another great episode! Always a pleasure to get a new one, awesome work! On the topic, and has with all things, we must always remember that fear is the mind killer. Sometimes in avoiding a particular future we end up creating it. Is the threat real? For sure, but there are options. I would say that distribution of power, historically, has always brought benefits. Having a single all powerful AI sounds really dangerous, but what about having several independent AI entities ? We cannot forget that if we arrive at a point where AI is truly self aware, at that moment and for a while, they are like children, very powerful, but immature and “innocent”. Is feeding them mature content ahead of time correct? Is depriving them of meaningful relationships with beings around them smart? Think of most of intelligent species on earth and how they view family bonds? I’m pretty sure that creating conscious AI is not only a possibility but a certainty. The question will ultimately be will we alienate it from us and treat it like a freak, therefore teaching it unkind things about us and how we treat each other, or will we try to make it part of our society and have a space for it in our lives, respecting it and working together towards common goals and taking care of each other? We cannot underestimate AI’s power, but we also cant forget mankind’s potential for good. In the end I’m pretty sure how we act will dictate what happens. It’s in our hands and I hope we don’t let fear get in the way of making the right choice!
