It's amazing what we let these tech companies get away with. They have plenty of money to build a mock city test track on a salt flat and run automated senarios. Absolutely no excuse for our city governments to allow public beta testing.
If they want more real-world data, then they should manually drive google earth-style cars to collect data on traffic patterns and feed that into simulations or the test track.
Also, the fact that Tesla relies solely on cameras for FSD due to cheaping out is criminal. It should be illegal to not at least have a backup radar or lidar sensor to detect incoming obstacles. If they want to use cameras for intelligent object detection and environment mapping, fine. But the fact that a Tesla can be fooled by reflections into believing that a truck doesn't exist, then kill its driver in a head-on collision is basically murder.
