No. They don't guarantee that there will be no fatalities. They guarantee, and with VERY good reason, that there will be significantly less fatalities.
Computers don't have egos. Computers don't fall asleep. Computers don't road rage. etc.
"stupid logic" is applied to combat the inevitable. It is inevitable that computers will drive our trucks and cars on the most safe stretches and I honestly don't think that there is anything we can do about it. Nor do I think that we should try to prevent it.
If the human factor is removed from that part of the transport equation, given capitalist logic, transport must become cheaper. If these people lived in a society that felt any compassion for the masses it serves, there would be measures in place to make sure that for these affected people, as sooooo many millions before them, alternatives is provided for reschooling for other sectors/jobs.
Too bad they don't live in commie Europe. No seriously... I wish the best for the US truckers. I understand the fear of loosing your livelihood. I wish you had a better system of government.
