What needs to happen, if companies are going to be insistent on adopting automation over employing people, they need to be taxed at a high % of the wage that would have been paid to the replaced workers. That money would then need to be used to fund either re-training and investment in new industries to create new employment or Basic Income for workers knocked out of disappearing industries by automation. I know, it's expecting far too much of government to manage such a transition.
