LLM technology consumes 10 times the power of other computing applications, almost all of which is generated by fossil fuels. Consider what the massive xAI data center has done to South Memphis, its residents, and the surrounding ecosystem. None of this was regulated, because the current administration cut environmental regulations for Musk and his companies. This is very much like your hypothetical scenario of AI commandeering our power grid and energy resources, except these companies are doing that from the start.
