The actual trajectory is improving the connection strength in neural networks, to enhance symbolic reasoning as a redundancy to language ( crows solve puzzles through neural path strength-as they dont have a language). This enhancement has its best environment in the human brain, so the future will be AI-engineered humans, proofed against everything from disease to aging. The wealth of the future will be measured in how many robots one owns. And this all has been written in the '50s by Asimov.
