The "no idea is original" argument is not effective at all because true art isn't a single idea. It's why you might hear "every stroke is meaningful" applied to certain pieces. Because those strokes are pulled from years of absorbing and putting out your own ideas. And forcing yourself to do something new. For example, there's no way you could say Tyler the creator isn't original. You can hear the inspiration in his instrumentals, lyrics, everything, but it's undeniably completely different from what it takes inspiration from. In a universe where Tyler didn't exist, no AI would be able to come up with his style until he actually does show up, and they're free to steal it. Look at how much drawing art styles have changed, from studio Ghibli to Lavender Towne. ALL of the styles AI Bros steal literally wouldn't exist if artists just stuck with renaissance style painting, no matter how many years you gave it. Cus it doesn't have a conenction to art to feel if something is actually good or not, so even if it does make something new, it might be terrible. Again, with music and Tyler example, if you think about it, his music should be trash. He uses weird ahh chords and sound design, and in his early stuff, would literally just scream in the mic. But then he would make melodies that make the weird-sounding chords sound beautiful, and all the screams and sound effects would actually sound perfect. That can only be done with trial and error of creating. If someone without the knowledge of exactly where to put those weird ideas tried, then it would sound terrible. Though, with countless hours of making mistakes and 'happy accidents', they'd subconsciously know when something would work out. But AI literally won't be able to learn what is good or bad. And even the prompt person with their human connection to art can't either because like I said, you can only subconsciously tell. (Like when you practice free throws in basketball, and your mind figures out the extremely MICRO-adjustments it needs to make for it to go in. You're not thinking of the physics like the exact velocity and force, but you know subconsciously). Like soooo many people had the EXACT same idea for star wars as george lucas, but they could never execute it the same. Cus the synopsis is not the only idea. Every scene is an idea. Every dialogue is an idea, the costumes, whatever. So in "it's not the idea, but the execution", both "ideas" and "execution" mean idea. Just one is the big picture, and the latter is what fits inside it.
