The greatest knowledge is the knowledge that we are high functioning primates making fancy noises and thinking that by labeling our sensory inputs in order to communicate with each other we’ve discerned the nature of the universe. The level of hubris and delusion this demonstrates is beyond staggering. That we now use machines to perpetuate this delusion and it literally hallucinates SHOULD be our cue to pause and rethink the entire enterprise. It’s very telling that the most prolific use of LLM technology to date has been the generation of imagery and sound that is artificial. What better way for the powers that be to undermine fundamental reality? That the next generation of soothsayers and charlatans now aim to claim it is just further evidence of such. Perhaps if the masses were actively engaging this technology in the interest of solving pollution, global warming, poverty and disease I would hold some hope for humanity. Sadly we use it instead to produce Bigfoot vlogs, baby podcasts and literal fake news. Sagan was so right about the future he rightly painted as decidedly dystopian.
