So the truth is that a lot of these authors use AI when writing, for creative inspiration, for writers block, for mapping plot points and twists, for a good number of things that directly affect the story, so it’s definitely ironic that they want a payday from these AI companies but without all the training they wouldn’t be able to use these tools to the extent that they are in making these books themselves. Something about that just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s kind of dishonest and just seems like a money train they want to hop on. They don’t truly care that their work was used, as long as they are paid for it. So the question becomes how can u quantify what something is worth to the end result of an AI’s output specially, given that most of the process is a black box. So this seems like something that isn’t as black and white as copyright infringement because if that were true, then the writers who use AI for their process are also in effect guilty of copyright infringement as well. Which of course is ludicrous. So that’s my point how can you tell? How can you quantify the worth of data because their books aren’t being plagiarized word for word which is the definition of plagiarism, these books are not being delivered to people to be published as you know outright plagiarism it wouldn’t make legal sense to charge these companies with copyright infringement. There is something to be said when you make your publicly available how was this different than somebody else who was inspired by your book and writes a book in a similar genre with the same plot mechanics it’s not plagiarism and that’s in fact what’s happening with the system? They’re not copying your work this is just like Nintendo saying that they want to patent the game Mechanic of monster combat it’s ridiculous. And for that reason this lawsuit should have been thrown out. They cannot prove that it’s infringement and the fact that writers use these exact AI systems for writing is proof. They’re just trying to take advantage of the fact that this is a new industry. There are no cut and dry regulations as to what data can be used to train AI which of course again is once your work is in the public domain there’s laws that state that you can’t sue for this and that unless you can prove that it’s explicitly meeting the definition of plagiarism. So for that reason, it’s a cash grab.
