I got long winded so TL:DR: POISON ALL THE ART A while back I was working with an artist friend who was having a bit of a block and she was trying to visualize a scene she was trying to make. After talking I downloaded and gave Stable Diffusion a spin. Installing it was easy. Trying to find base checkpoint models for it to use that were not full of stolen art but trained and learned on consenting artists? That took hours. And as I got more familiar with it and learned how to use it... I became genuinely terrified of what it *CAN* do. What its capable of. Its a *VERY* powerful tool, and people can, will, and are, misusing it, and realizing what people can do with it... made me feel a little sick. And I'm still not 100% sure the models we used were all consenting artists. I can see its uses. I can see how it can be used in a positive way. People are not using it in that way. They will, and already are, using it to kill artists, steal from them, deny them a livelihood. You touched on this, and how it can be used to create realistic looking images to spread false information, misinformation, lies, slander, etc. I've not interacted with people in the AI Art community, but I've seen mentions of how angry it makes them when they try to train models and whups its poisoned. Good. Poison away. You're not the first person I've seen talk about flooding image sites like instagram with poisoned images. Slap some tainted images on image boards. Do it so hard that the people who make the models will *HAVE* to either ask the artists for non poisoned art, or give up. And if a company so so desperately wants to use AI Art in a commercial space? Well then. Hire an artist to just make pictures to feed the AI to train it on. Pay the artist. PAY. THE. ARTIST. You can't magic artists into existence. Its a fine art that takes years, decades even, of practice, practice, practice, something that they have to work and work and work at, the amount of time it takes for an artist to get good, even someone who's naturally talented, is more intensive than the vast vast majority of trades out there. And all the while their friends, family, teachers, and so on will probably be belittling them, getting angry at them, for attempt to hone an expressive skill. And then at the end of that long hard road to be good at a craft, some rich asshole wants to swoop in and replace them with a robot they don't have to pay, because they just want to pad their bank account number like its a high score in a video game.
