I think alot of the hesitation from other artists in the discussion around AI art comes simply from the prevailing term "art" and "artist" being so broad and deep. Alot of my own principles come from the modern fine art traditions like "art for art sake" and certain ethos like "the best artist steal from each other" and that the pursuit of art comes first, not the artist. Which contradicts a lot of creative rights sentiment. Even my own initial reactions, as an artist, towards other artist was that they are over reacting and I even thought "maybe their art shouldn't be so generic and unchanging AI can't so easily reproduce it." It also doesn't help that a lot of what I saw in the discussion was people trying to defend industry art jobs, which to me is an oxymoron, and using faulty logic or pretending the entire avant garde movement didn't exist and claim it's "not art". But now seeing more behind-the-curtain with regards to how people and corporations intend to use AI, I think it's better to facilitate a healthy relationship between Artists and AI technology to protect the craftsman lifestyle.
