This is an overreaction. People won't opt out of politics. The standards of evidence gathering will just improve. Two reasons for this:
1. There was a time evidence wasn't even important. Detectives who use advanced forensic technology didn't exist, but now, other than political bullshit, you can't convince anyone someone committed a crime without some lab tech presenting some kind of samples and DNA analysis. Or without serious witnesseses.
2. Video evidence is only as old as video recording. Are you suggesting law enforcement and criminal justice did not exist before smartphones? When deep fakes become common, people will just start ignoring video and photographs as proof and law enforcement will have to rely on other forms of evidence, just like before video cameras.
As to politicians, it doesn't matter. If someone is dumb enough to vote based on images, they are just plain dumb. It's like saying audio records of a mimic doing a Trump impression is worthy of debate.
TL:DR: this might affect politics in the short run, but then people will just raise their standards for acceptable evidence and it will turn into an app like everything else. Don't let these fearmongers frighten you. It's just business for them.
