I disagree with this gatekeeping by artists. I understand it; you see what AI art is making and you start to wonder how long it will be until all of the kinks get worked out and it is producing masterpieces. That is intimidating - especially when your art is your livelihood. But, denying everyone else the benefits of technology so that you can maintain a stranglehold on it is socially wrong. It's like being a seller of fruit and chopping down all of your competitor's fruit trees so that you're the only one who can provide the consumer with fruit.
If you don't like AI art, that's your choice. Don't use it, don't view it, make your art and be happy. But don't begrudge the rest of the world what they want because you're afraid of competition.
