my POV is that humans and animals in general are much like AI- we are alive through electricity processed by certain elements, we just developed and evolved more slowly, while AI would most likely just start existing. so they should have rights if (or when) they gain consciousness or pain and such since an automated mind would resemble much of a biological mind.
