This is honestly a moot point now. Neural nets are rapidly replacing traditional algorithms for pattern recognition applications and so her issue will be automatically solved within a few years.
Personally, I find her argument ironic as she wants for minorities to be better tracked by facial recognition software to "help" them but it will end up being used to oppress them. She will get her wish, but she should realize how naive she was because this software is already being used by governments, such as in law enforcement, to target these minorities she so wanted to be recognized.
