Drivers are more than just "drivers." It is incredibly shallow thinking to suppose that merely replacing the act of driving with automation will save a company money. What do I mean? Cab drivers are unpaid security guards, cargo loaders, negotiators, and threat avoidance managers. Even the ones who don't speak English well will make sure you get into your house okay, help you stow your luggage, carry your groceries, tell you that your destination is potentially dangerous, and even defend you if you are attacked. And that's just taxi drivers. Bus drivers acting in defense of their passengers, truck drivers repairing their own vehicles, package delivery drivers using their knowledge of an area to re-route packages to the right place. Drivers are human, they solve problems. "Driving" is the least of their responsibilities.
