i never really thought about it (not too deeply), but when we get to the point that we can basically build machines indistinguishable from human beings, but while keeping the points that favor us and removing the ones that disfavor us, wouldnt it make for THE perfect friend, or lover, or parents, etc?
you could build your own friend with all the same interests as you, while having their own sense of perspective of things in the way a usual human relationship has while removing its ability to ever feel really angry at you, or have a serious fight with you (not that having an argument is bad, but serious ones can be really damaging to both parties), or a lover with all the physical and mental properties you ever imagined in your wildest dreams and still maintaining a level of perception of things above and divergent from your own as to keep a certain immersion that said robot is just like any other person you've known, except better.
