humans have an intrinsic desire to advance. it's one of the only things we always strive for... Perhaps we were put here to discover things. Also, quality of life consistently has risen since recorded history, with small fluctuations along the way, but ultimately it rises, and that is directly the result of technological advancement. Also, if we can find a way to automate literally every labourious job, no one would have to work, humans would be freed up to work on enjoyable or more important things than having so many people doing menial work. And I suppose just curiosity, but that leads back to my first point, humans advance!
