Meta specifically makes like 90% of its money on FB and Instagram, both of which have slowing user growth. They’re investing into AI, VR, hardware etc because in 20 years Instagram might not be around. There are obviously still tons of engineers maintaining the money-making products, and trying to drive more money out of them - but if they don’t hit a next thing that’s as big as those they’re screwed. It’s a totally different story from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, etc that are still on the upswing.
