Because it's their biggest cost base. They only make software, so the biggest part of their production is programmers doing programming. Also, almost everything else is scaled in support of those programmers: HR, payroll, office management, etc. Quarter the programming staff and they can make redundant a lot of the support staff. Once the AI lets them create more products, they might need to increase marketing and sales, but then they'll switch to AI for those tasks.
