Lol, there are a bunch of publicly owned services and even companies. Amtrak is owned by the government. Libraries used to be privately owned or owned by private universities.
Here's just a few:
* Bank of the US
* Amtrak
* AmericCorps
* Fish & Wildlife Foundation
* OPIC (Over Seas Private Investment Corporation)
* NeighborWorks
* USPS
* FICO (The Financing Corporation)
* GMC (For a time)
* CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting)

The bottom line is that we already have a mixed economy and for the markets the public sector has a presence it is very much a good thing for consumers and competition.
Edit: What public ownership does outside of keeping access available to everyone, prices competitive, and adding to our budget is ensure that research and development in those markets aren't privatized. In this case, should there be a truly revolutionary advancement in AI, having publicly owned AI compani
