ChatGPT is a large language model, and the same could be said about a section of our temporal lobe.
the only thing keeping ChatGPT from being sentient by its own definition is the ability to keep track of time, and to have its own internal thoughts, though I'm not sure this isn't happening at some abstract level when its processing a prompt.
