I cant help but think that automation hurts the economy. It increases unemployment. It also decreases the pool of consumers who are likely to buy the products that said automated factory produces. It also increases the burden on the state via welfare. There doesnt seem to be all that many other options for people that get displaced due to automation. Having that said the point about taxing robotics is valid, it will discourage innovation in the state where such regulation is in place. Universal basic income is a good idea but that money will have to come from somewhere. We might be forced to seriously re-evaluate our economic model.
