It has always been this way. The tools have changed, but the essence stayed the same, and the countermeasures haven’t changed either.

High EQ is also harder to access when the body is running on empty. Sleep deprived, blood sugar crashing, cortisol through the roof. The self awareness, the calm presence, the empathy. All of it erodes. EQ is a skill and it also has a physical floor.
The last one is the one that takes time to learn. Being genuinely happy for others when they do well sounds simple, but it isn’t always easy in practice. And in my experience, it’s what separates people who build strong teams from those who just manage them. Everything else tends to follow from that.

The body analogy is the easiest one I have seen for explaining MCP to a non technical lead. Saving this for client onboarding.
Natan Mohart How someone handles pressure often says more than how they perform when things are easy. Thanks for sharing.
Emotional intelligence is often described as a soft skill, but in senior environments it functions more like a stability mechanism under pressure. It is less about being agreeable or expressive and more about maintaining clarity when emotions, stakes, and ambiguity rise at the same time. The highest performers are not defined by how much they feel, but by how consistently they can process what they feel without letting it distort judgment or relationships, Justin Wright
Tom Pestridge Great point. Which EQ skill do you think teams benefit from most?
