@edickens09 Depending on the context, it IS possible for AI to generate GPL code AND comply with the GPL license. For example, if the context is displaying a code snippet with attribution and something like, "this is how <GPL licensed project> does it" - likely would not violate the GPL because a) the program is not being distributed, only a portion of underlying source code is, b) even if it counts as distribution, all the source for the distributed "program" was provided, c) mentioning the license is sufficient to convey the license to the recipient.
As for users using the AI generated GPL code, that's on the individual user not the AI. Just because you obtain a copy of some code doesn't mean you're licensed to use it. You still need to abide by the terms of actual license no matter how you obtained it. Even if the program was re-licensed by the distributor, if the new license conflicts with the GPL then the GPL wins.
Also, remember that simply using GPL code without distributing it is explicitly PERMITTED and does not require even a derivative work to be open sourced or licensed in any particular way. So long as the derivative work is not distributed of course.
