Facebook shut that down because the language they created was a degenerate version of English. A robot that can only say words and phrases like "I want" and "give me" only because of they have higher point value is not going to desire power or control. Facebook couldn't understand the gibberish and felt like it was a waste of time to proceed on something that wouldn't reach their goal of a true AI.
