The reason facial recognition is bias is because the world is bias. Medical treatments are often only tested on male subjects, a huge bias against women’s health. It can most likely be safely assumed that the training data for facial recognition has been largely comprised of white and lighter skin individuals. The technology itself works fine, the bias is from the human side, not the math and science.
