@DamianGabrielDan I think the core of the disagreement here is the difference between Art as a passion and Art as a product. AI art is objectively inferior in overall quality to the output of an experienced artist. Viewing art for beauty, the inferior one loses out. Those who look at art as a product, however, don't mind a drop in quality if it comes with a greater drop in price.
Simply put: Generative image programs were built from the ground up to be perfect art-as-a-product machines. They're killing artistry as a marketable skill the same way mass production and plastics killed smithing as a marketable skill. Is it wholly good or bad it happened? No. Is it nearly impossible to find a professional blacksmith these days when just a century ago there'd be one in every town? Yes.
AI art won't kill human artistry, but (assuming it doesn't fold like the housing market) it will take a lot of opportunities that would have otherwise allowed human artists to profit off of their own work. In other words, a world that fully embraces generative imagery is one without full-time professional artists.
