You could solve climate change. You could solve poverty, cancer, depressions. It can give us freedome and harmony. Problem are greedy humans using it.
Also it is inevitable. Give ressources to the people that are really for ai safety. It is always unwise to call progress unwise, you can't freeze the current state. Freezing it would mean dystopia by default.
It is the direction of progress that counts.
