Oh, to preempt the inevitable rhetorical replies:
1) Yes we could also do those things to ourselves, we also pose an existential threat to our own existence. A super intelligence would clearly pose more.
2) Yes would would vet any proposals that the AI suggested but as those proposals would be beyond our intelligence levels, they would have to be explained by the same AI.
3) Yes we would test the proposals in advance of deploying them on a large scale, but would we wait 50 years before doing so?
