Exactly. LLM's don't actually 'understand' what they output. They are essentially just very advanced prediction machines that mimic human language and this is basically what the Chinese room thought experiment shows. It's no wonder that a system trained on the whole entire internet without actually 'understanding' its contents would repeat all of the disgusting anti-Semitic and racist things people post.
