Autopilot is not based on AI; it's just TACC plus lane centering, the same as virtually every can sold in the past 10-15 years has been equipped with. Nonetheless, its safety can be compared with drivers not using Autopilot: "In the 3rd quarter [of 2024], we recorded one crash for every 7.08 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology. By comparison, the most recent data available from NHTSA and FHWA (from 2022) shows that in the United States there was an automobile crash approximately every 670,000 miles" (Tesla Vehicle Safety Report 3Q2024).
