If the future is for people you would think content automatically being generated that people like would be a good thing not a.bad thing.
If people don't want to contribute to a world where people get more product more tailored to their needs, faster and cheaper I agree they should opt out and it's wrong for a company to forcibly use that data... Though to a certain extent the learning process of these AI systems are very similar to that of any aspiring creative. Truthfully it doesn't require creatives to generate these models. We can automatically take thousands of photos and as long as someone puts captions in them it will train the models the same way artist and people learn what things look like. And artists will also opt in... Some artists opting out is a delaying process because this isn't "copyright machine". But that delay period seems to have gone by the wayside anyways considering the tech is already here.
If artists remembered that they got into making art for the process of making it and the joy of making it, then you would think it wouldn't matter that AI is doing it as well. The process of making art is still possible. The reality is the argument is that AI will make art better than humans can. And this will stop people from consuming the artists art. Thats an argument about making the artist rich, not about getting back to the roots of art... Not that I think such an argument is necessarily bad, but the point isnt supporting it. As bo Burnham claimed, art is dead. Now people just want money.
