AI art takes data and makes it different. That is interpretation.
I don't understand why you think comparing it to lossy compression helps you in anyway. That makes no sense. Even if it does compress the image that has nothing to do with the generative process. I guess what you are trying to say is...Compressing an image is the same as changing an image, because they are transforming the data.
Well in that case. Sometimes I use a hair dryer to melt wax. That doesn't make it a candle.
