@fearedjamespersonally, didnt mention adding ai to the carts. ive never been to a shopping center that has multiple stores with carts, so this problem never occured to me.
in my mind the way it would work is the corrals would have lanes installed inside, 2-3 depending on store, and people would be forced to put a cart into one of the three lanes so it would be all straight in a neat little line for some fucked up robo boy to come along, hook the front one, and steer it all back.
as for this proposed scenario, i suppose the way it would work is just labelling the corrals and passing a law that you have to push a cart into the correct corral, i imagine there would either be a scanner or a robot to maintain this being the case, and they would give loud warnings to put your cart in the correct corral or face the consequences (by the point this all happens i imagine facial recognition/biometric scanning has become more progressed and as such the robot seeing your face would mean it knows who you are, where you live, and access to your personal record to put out fines/warrants to offenders.
