That doesn't count as a mistake to me. The laser should have seen through the darkness better than a human eye but it did not. They have taken all the cars off the road until they can be sure the car can see much better than humans can. It will save millions of lives, because millions of people die from human error (error behind the wheel) each year. (obviously "millions" is hyperbolic, but I don't think that's relevant)
